2026 OL Quinn Buckey takes official visit to Cal

Quinn Buckey will begin his official visit schedule this weekend with a trip to Cal. It is the first of six planned official visits that will take place over the next two months with the Bakersfield-Liberty offensive tackle recruit planning to make his college decision not long after his final OV to Vanderbilt in June. He was on campus with the Bears back in early February and has built a solid relationship with Famika Anae already.

"I've gotten to know coach Anae and a couple other coaches pretty well over the last, I would say, two months. Everything kind of picked up for me recruiting-wise, and they were one of the earlier schools for sure. So, that means a lot to me, and I think coach Anae really does a great job getting their guys prepared every week so that's a big thing for me."

High 3-star OL Artem Korchagin commits to Cal

Cal has landed a commitment from 2026 center Artem Korchagin during his official visit with the Bears. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound junior from Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, Georgia came to the US from Russia a couple years ago without ever having played football but has quickly garnered attention from across the country. He is a true center prospect, which are difficult to find, and he doesn't have a ton of bad weight after getting a chance to look at him this weekend while he was at practice during his visit. I think there's a lot of upside here for the Bears, and I like this pickup. He was previously a four-star recruit at Rivals but has since dropped a bit down to a 5.7 three-star, but there is something there and think he could be a good one for Cal.

Duke was his only other Power Four offer, but I do think schools are missing out by not offering him. Cal was early in the mix with an offer last fall, and the staff certainly seems to like what he brings to the table.

Cal has added a transfer commitment from Loyola-Maryland power forward Milos Ilic this evening, per his agency WEAVE. The 6-foot-10, 235-pound senior averaged 14.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3 assists to lead his team this season.

The Gornji Milanovac, Serbia native played high school basketball at the Hoosac School in New York and quickly made an impression at Loyola by playing in 26 games and making 23 starts his first year. An injury cost the versatile big man his sophomore season, which is giving him the opportunity to play at Cal as a graduate transfer when he gets his degree this spring.

He made 27 starts in the 2023-24 season before starting all 31 games this season for the Greyhounds. Ilic fills a big need for the Bears in the front court with Cal set to lose Mady Sissoko in the middle. The presence of a versatile big man certainly was highlighted with Fardaws Aimaq during Mark Madsen's first season, and Ilic has the type of well-rounded game that can fit in well with the Bears' system.

Though it is not his speciality, Ilic has the range to step out and take 3-point shots. He is coming off his best season shooting from the outside having made 20-of-62 shots from beyond the arc. Ilic connected on a career-best 52.4% of his shots from the field this season and upped his rebounding average from 5.1 to 7.5.

His ability to distribute the ball is certainly unique for a player his size and could be a real weapon for the Bears. Though his offensive game is where he shines, Ilic also finished in the top five at Loyola this season in steals and blocks.

Ilic scored in double figures in all but four games this season and had double doubles in seven contests. One of those games came during a nonconfernece matchup with future ACC opponent Boston College, which ended with Ilic pulling in a season-high 14 rebounds to go along with 12 points and 4 assists.

The newest Cal transfer nearly had a triple double against Holy Cross as he finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and a season-high 8 assists. He hit the 20-point mark four times this season highlighted by a 28-point showing against VMI early in the season.

The Bears have started to develop some momentum in their rebuild process following a handful of departures since the end of the season. Ilic is the third player to announce his commitment to Cal since Saturday joining Campbell University wing Nolan Dorsey and Virginia point guard Dai Dai Ames, who made his decision to join the Bears earlier in the day Tuesday.

USC, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Penn State and Nebraska were believed to be some of the other programs in pursuit of the new Cal transfer addition.

WATCH: Bryan Harsin, EJ Caminong and Jordan Spasojevic-Moko talk on Day 8 of spring ball

sosuiutas7iibdtahmby

Cal returned to the practice field on Monday following spring break. Day 8 of spring ball marks the second half for the Bears. Following Monday's practice offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin spoke to reporters for the first time since arriving in Berkeley and spoke at length about his move to Cal, his expectations for the upcoming season, the competition at quarterback, what his offense will look like and a lot more.

As I mentioned in the other thread, media is no longer permitted to report on practice as of today so there will be no practice updates between now and the spring showcase on April 12. I will think of some other ways to have engaging written content, but here are all the videos and photos from today.

Cal has landed a commitment from graduate transfer guard Nolan Dorsey today. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Knightdale, North Carolina native has played at New Mexico and Holy Cross as well but is coming off an impressive season that ended with him winning the CAA Defensive Player of the Year award. He averaged 9.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game. His 53 steals led the league.

The Bears have had four players enter the transfer portal since the end of the season including versatile forwards BJ Omot and Joshua Ola-Joseph.

Dorsey will add a veteran presence to the floor having played in all 32 games for Campbell this season. He has taken an interesting path through the college ranks with his career beginning in Albuquerque with the Lobos. He played in just eight games at UNM before heading to Holy Cross where he played in 22 games and made eight starts in his first season there.

Dorsey played in 31 games and made 25 starts in 2022-23 before heading to Campbell. He did not play during the 2023-24 season but exploded this year with his breakout showing.

He had four games with at least 5 assists highlighted by an 8-assist game against Elon in February. Dorsey had 4 assists and 6 rebounds in a game against North Carolina early in the season. Dorsey had a string of four games scoring in double figures in January and early February highlighted by 22 points on the road against Hofstra for his season high.

He reached double figures in 13 games throughout the season and had multiple steals in 16 contests.

Impact of Successful Football Programs

Coach Prime just got paid at CO, but the interesting part is how the ESPN article sites the economic impact of Coach Prime and the success of the football program on the university and the city. Prime example of how Lyons is right!

“The university cited Sanders' impact on the school and its community, noting that applications have increased 20% from a year ago to over 67,000, including an 18% increase in applications from out of state. According to the school, applications from prospective students who identify as Black/African American increased 50.5%, and applications from prospective students who identify as non-white increased 29.3%.

Colorado also sold out all but two home games last fall, marking the first time the Buffs have sold out four or more games in back-to-back seasons since 1995-96. This past season, home football games generated a combined $93.9 million in direct economic impact to the city of Boulder and $146.5 million in total regional economic impact, according to the university.”

Troy Taylor not a great guy apparently

maybe having cal connections doesn't make you a good person or good coach?

btw THIS is how you lay the groundwork to fire someone for cause.

Ron Rivera set to join Cal as new GM

I will have a story soon after it gets announced and we speak with him today, but Ron Rivera's contract was approved yesterday and he will be announced this afternoon. Some of the details are as follows: He will have a $250,000 base salary per year plus a $550,000 talent fee per year as well. The contract will begin March 24, 2025 and run through March 31, 2028.

Cal guard Christian Tucker has entered the transfer portal

Christian Tucker is the next member of Cal's roster to enter his name into the transfer portal. The senior from Mesa, Arizona played in all 33 games and was one of only three players to do so this season for the Bears. Tucker, who transferred to Cal last offseason from UTSA, averaged 1.7 points and 1 assist in those 33 appearances for Mark Madsen's team.

Tucker did make five starts during the 2024-25 season including the finale against Stanford in the ACC Tournament as he stepped into the starting lineup in place of the injured Jeremiah Wilkinson. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard played a season-high 37 minutes in that loss and and finished with a season-best 4 assists.

His season high on the scoring end came early in the year against Cal Poly as he contributed 8 points in the victory after hitting a couple 3-pointers. Tucker scored 7 points in the late-February matchup at home against SMU.

He is now the fourth member of Cal's roster to enter the transfer portal since it opened this week along with Wilkinson plus forwards BJ Omot and Joshua Ola-Joseph. Three of the four players who have entered the portal, including Tucker, only transferred to Cal last offseason.

It is shaping up to be another offseason of movement for Madsen and the Bears after they added 10 players from the portal last year.
