The Bears held on after allowing 4 runs in the ninth inning to take down No. 8 seed Wake Forest in Durham on Wednesday to secure their spot in the quarterfinals of the ACC Baseball Championship. Right fielder Jacob French went 4 for 6 at the plate to help pace Cal in its 14-12 win over the Demon Deacons setting up a meeting with top-seeded Georgia Tech on Thursday at noon (PT).

ACC Hierarchy System Relegates Cal

A very interesting story about an AD at FSU who takes care of his school while JK gets schooled

Can anyone try to explain what is Cal's correct share of ACC revenues? Does the new revenue sharing deal based on ability to generate media revenue cut down our participation even further?

It seems the days of scheduling cupcakes to get to 6 bowl eligible wins will have a price associated with it.

How Cal killed one of America's best sports bars

Hey friends, wrote a pretty meaty feature today on Bear's Lair — I spent weeks going through archives and digging up history on the bar, which once hosted Jerry Garcia (!), Robin Williams (!!) and Aaron Rodgers with a bowl cut. You probably don't know about a lot of that history, though because Cal has stood by and watched it die a long, slow, seemingly never-ending death.

Ron Rivera announces Fight For California Challenge

This afternoon, Cal GM Ron Rivera announced a crowdfunding initiative alongside Justin Wilcox and Kevin Kennedy aimed at raising $500,000 with donations that will be matched up to that amount by Rivera, Wilcox and Kennedy.

Cal Family,
I’m thrilled to announce the launch of our Fight for California Challenge, a pivotal initiative that will take Cal Football to the next level.
Stephanie and I, along with Travers Family Head Football Coach Justin Wilcox and Kevin and Jeanette Kennedy, have each pledged to match every dollar raised, up to $500,000.
This moment presents a unique opportunity for Cal to lead the conference. Giving now provides Cal Football with the critical resources needed to compete for a conference championship and beyond. If we fall short, we risk falling behind. Recruiting and retaining top-tier student-athletes and coaches is essential to our program’s long-term success, and your support empowers us to be more competitive than ever before.
You’ve heard about the rapidly evolving landscape of college athletics. The upcoming House Settlement will have major implications for how college football operates moving forward. I know we have turned to you for support in the past, but the need has never been greater than it is today.
We're in a new era. The rise of the transfer portal, recruiting dynamics, NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness), and the push for increased revenue have fundamentally changed the landscape of college athletics, particularly football.
Cal has always risen to meet the moment. We've led with innovation and embraced change when it mattered most. Now is another one of those moments.
So please, join me and make a gift today. Let’s win. Let’s compete for ACC championships and College Football Playoff berths. Let’s show the nation what Cal is all about.
Investments will flow through the Cal Football Strategic Opportunity and Excellence Fund. Resources will be allocated at the discretion of Travers Family Head Football Coach Justin Wilcox and myself, and will be directed toward advancing the football program and strengthening key priorities that support competitive success and the student-athlete experience.
All contributions are tax-deductible, and gifts of $10,000 or more qualify for Championship CALiber benefits, offering exclusive access and experiences with the Cal Football program.
And remember, a gift of $100 grants you Cal Athletics Fund membership.
Together, we can Fight for California.

ACC moving to 18-game schedule in 2025-26 for men's hoops

The ACC has announced this afternoon that it will be moving from a 20-game conference schedule to an 18-game slate beginning this fall. The move will allow for some scheduling flexibility across the league. The new setup will have two teams serve as primary partners (Stanford is going to be matched up with Cal) with those two teams playing twice in a season along with a rotating variable partner that will also have a home and home matchup on the schedule. Then the other games will be played against 14 of the 15 remaining teams in the league.

“As a league, we have been transparent about the importance of ACC Men’s Basketball and specifically our commitment to ensuring it is best positioned for the future,” ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said in a statement through the league. “Moving to an 18-game conference schedule is a direct result of our ongoing strategic review and analysis and provides our schools a better balance of non-conference and conference games, while also allowing them more autonomy in the scheduling process. This decision reflects our on-going prioritization to do what’s best for ACC Men’s Basketball, and we appreciate the thoughtfulness of our membership and the support from our television partners.”

Conference play will begin in late December and run through the first Saturday in March. Last season the Bears had a Dec. 7 matchup against Stanford before concluding nonconference play and played the Cardinal, SMU and NC State twice during the regular season.

Monster commitment for Cal as Rivals100 OLB Camron Brooks commits

Cal has scored a major recruiting win on Sunday as four-star outside linebacker Camron Brooks has announced his pledge to the Bears. Brooks had been set to take several official visits in the summer with Cal included among that group, but he's instead shifted course and opted to commit to the Bears now. He's teammates with current offensive line commit Artem Korchagin at Thomas County Central in Georgia, and the Bears are starting to build a nice pipeline into the school.

Clemson, Florida State and Miami are the other schools that Brooks had set official visits with already while Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Michigan, LSU, Florida and Texas A&M are some of the programs on his offer list.

As it stands now, Brooks is the highest-rated commitment for Cal since the 2016 cycle.
