The key takeaways from Dykes press conference
I like where we are as a program. We're healthy, we have some momentum
Utah is a big challenge. Good on offense, defense, maybe exceptional on ST. We're excited
Cal's ranking
-We don't really talk about it
-We instead focus on things we can control (practicing hard, studying hard, helping each other, executing well, etc)
Playing Big Games
-Sign of progress, work hard to play in these games and win them
-We've played in tough hostile environments, we'll stay focused this Saturday too
-Great crowd at Utah, but the crowd doesn't score touchdowns
Cal defense vs Utah only having 4 turnovers (1 sack)?
-Utah does a good job on 1st and 2nd down, so don't see too many 3rd and longs
-We need to hold them on 1st down. Force them into turnovers
Utah defense
-They can hold their opponents run game. Strength of their team is that front 4
-So they can hold their safeties back to prevent big plays
Utah special teams
-Kicker/punter have a lot of experience. Punter is a great athlete
-Field goal kicker is very consistent
-That fake punt in Oregon game was executed so well
Utah QB Wilson
-good QB last year, playing really well this year
-QB has a strong supporting cast
-he's a winner, makes play. Tall kid, but athletic, lateral movement
-unorthodox throwing motion, but accurate
-he's improved his timing and accuracy versus last year
Utah RB Booker
-really patient, reads his blocks well
-good quickness, powerful, and speed (especially in open field)
-Utah has built strong schemes to fit his skills
Cal RB Lasco
-this week needs to get back his timing (get in the groove, given the blocks)
-get his vision back (lost that some, given his injury and thus not getting reps)
Cal health
-Farley and Wilson will practice fully today
-"We're healthy right now"
