Thursday offer spree: Cal sends out several in-season offers

Cal went on a bit of an offer spree today as the Bears look to build some momentum on the recruiting trail after a big visit weekend. The Bears focused on the younger prospects with a handful of offers going to 2025 and 2026 prospects. However, one 2024 recruit with several high-level offers was also added to the list as well.

Here's a look at the newest group of official Cal targets.

OV recap: Top-40 2025 guard Jovani Ruff has expectations surpassed on Cal official visit

Jovani Ruff is arguably the most prominent visitor Cal has had on campus since the arrival of Mark Madsen, and he took his first trip to Berkeley over the weekend. Things went well with the top-40 2025 prospect as he continues to build a strong relationship with Mark Madsen and the Bears staff. He said one of the things that pushed him to make Cal one of his early official visits is that the Bears have by far been the most active in his recruitment.

Washington could get him on a visit this fall, but for right now Cal is the only one he had planned. It is very possible he doesn't take any other official visits until later in the year or next year.

The Bears are in a good spot and did nothing but help their chances with the high four-star guard over the weekend.

"It was really good, and it was actually way better than I expected," he told Golden Bear Report. "People be talking down on Cal because of the season they had las year, but I feel like they're gonna have a really good year. The staff is great, and the players are really good."

Week 3 depth chart: Idaho

This week's updated depth chart for Cal ahead of the matchup with Idaho. Some definite tweaks after Saturday's loss to Auburn. The placekicker position now has an "or" between Michael Luckhurst and Mateen Bhaghani. No more "or" separating Sam Jackson V and Ben Finley with Jackson firmly now at the top of the QB list. Trond Grizzell moved from Z to the slot position with an "or" separating him and Monroe Young. Taj Davis moved in as the starter at Z [edit: there is an "or" between Davis and Brian Hightower]. Jaydn Ott remains listed as the starter at running back as well.

We talk with the coaches today, so we will get some updates on the depth chart and injuries after Saturday.

Taking babies to games

was just wondering if anybody takes babies to games at CMS? I have a ~1 year old and would like to go to a game this year... pretty much eliminates late start games, but afternoon could be good. probably wildly impractical, but just wondering if anybody has done it and if you have any suggestions on where to sit, etc... would presume west side for sun and facilities.

Momentum

The narrative around Cal football has been in the dumps for a while — the last few months were especially bad, when it became clear that we were an afterthought nationally and barely got to stay a P5 program.

But the last week has broken really well for us. We found a home in the ACC, dispersing some of the existential dark clouds looming over the program. We won our season opener convincingly and put enough points on the scoreboard to make even casual fans look up in surprise. And now we have a nationally televised home opener against an SEC school that, while traditionally considered a power, is entirely beatable. Let’s fill up the stadium and get the ESPN crew reminiscing about the Tedford glory days. If we hit that $1 million NIL target this weekend, that should be a big talking point too.

Roll on You Bears!!

Five takeaways: Justin Wilcox, Cal coaches turn their attention to Auburn

Here's the latest article from @Maria Kholodova breaking down an Auburn-centric media session today with Cal head coach Justin Wilcox, Jake Spavital, Peter Sirmon and quarterback Ben Finley.

Plenty of praise about the Tigers coming from the Bears today.
