Too often, we tend to think a player only contributes to the team if he gets significant minutes in the game. Anybody out of the rotation can be viewed as disposable, not worth hanging on to, or a waste of scholarship. While it's easy to think this way, it needs to be remembered that all 14-16 players on the roster in any season contribute to the team in their own ways.

One example is Roger Moute a Bidias. Roger hasn't seen many minutes during his time at Cal, but he has been a very good practice player. Cuonzo Martin mentioned that Roger's defense on Jaylen Brown in practice made Jaylen a much better player and that Roger pushed Jaylen in practice more than any other player.

Another example is Brenden Glapion, who did a great job at running the scout team in practice and doing whatever was asked of him. Even though Brenden hardly ever saw the floor, he made significant contributions to the team in practice. The same can be said for all of the players on the roster. A guy like Brandon Chauca may not get many minutes, but in practice, he is able to run the offense and will also be able to help guys like Don Coleman, Alec Hickman, and Jemarl Baker, Jr. adjust to running the offense, etc.

So, just wanted to quickly remind everybody of this. There's so much more to being on a team than just playing in a game. Everybody on this Cal team finds ways to contribute and make everybody better. It's not just the starters or rotation players that make a meaningful contribution.
