Interesting article from Jeff Goodman a couple years back in 2019. Pac-12 hoops coaches rank the best jobs in the conference. They used a points ranking (article explains).
Arizona ranked #1. UCLA ranked #2 right behind them. Oregon a little behind them at #3. Washington ranked #4 with a bit of a gap from Oregon.
USC ranked #5 with a bit of a gap between Washington. Utah 1 point behind USC at #6. Stanford a little behind Utah at #7. Arizona State and Cal tied for 8th. Both behind Stanford by quite a bit.
Colorado at #10. Just a 6 points behind Cal and ASU. Oregon State at #11, 1 point back. Washington State bringing up the rear at #12 by quite a bit.
What was said about Cal: The Golden Bears have been to 19 NCAA tourneys and four Sweet 16s, but it’s been up-and-down for the program. They have produced some terrific players – Jason Kidd and Kevin Johnson among them – but have been inconsistent throughout the years. Cal ranks second to last in facilities and in the bottom half of the league in six of the eight categories.
Where they win: “The location with Silicon Valley, wine country and San Francisco. It’s a great academic school and a great place to live.” – Pac-12 assistant
The knock: “No practice facility, academic requirements and the lack of tradition. Just not enough support.” – Pac-12 head coach
