Specifically, do Uluave, Cochrane, and Johnson need to play to improve Cal's play later in the season? I believe these 3 guys are more physically stout than some of the starters. And as we saw on Saturday and vs Texas, some of the starters don't match up well against good d linemen. Cal has a better shot vs the meat of the p12 (usc, utah, ucla, etc) if the oline isn't getting pushed around. So are there young guys that should be forced into the lineup to help address some of the physical mismatches, recognizing that they will make youthful mistakes early with the idea that they have more upside later in the season?
I believe Cochrane should be starting, not sure about any others. Regarding Uluave, on one hand he's definitely a physical beast and can match up physically vs say the usc dline, more so than a few of the starters. But he's also a true frosh. Should the coaches be force feeding him playing time vs wsu so Cal oline as a whole is less likely to get pushed around in the later big boy games? And what about Johnson, does he have more raw talent than some of the starters?
I don't know the answer. Can see arguments pro and con (coaches always know best), but curious what others think.
