High school football season is kicking off and that means the return of our "Friday Night Lights Rewind". Obviously I'll be assembling a proper piece as I get all the stats and scores from Cal's commits, but wanted to toss out a few here in the meantime.

The big star of the week (thus far) has to be Zion Echols. The shifty back scored 5 TD's in leading Charter Oak to a 42-21 win over Las Vegas' Green Valley . Those scores started with an 89 yard return of the game's opening kickoff. He had 12 carries for 145 yards including TD scampers of 55, 20, and 43 yards.

Max Gilliam had a good night as well, accounting for 5 touchdowns (3 passing and 2 rushing) in Thousand Oaks's 41-13 win over Ventura. He did throw 2 picks, however.

Traveon Beck and Bosco annihilated La Mirada, 76-8. Beck played limited snaps, primarily due to the game being a blowout. He left early in the second quarter after tallying 4 tackles and a PBU. Oh and Cal safety "target" DJ Morgan had 2 interceptions in the win.

Jordan Duncan and Oak Grove came back from a 33-21 deficit with 3 minutes left in the game to beat Wayne County 34-33 on Thursday night. Duncan hauled in 8 receptions for 82 yards and a 6-yard TD catch, despite facing double coverage all night.

Centennial hammered East Salt Lake City 49-13. Cam Bynum had an interception and Daniel Juarez paved the way to just under 400 yards of total offense for the Huskies. Centennial was up 28-0 at half and cruised from there.

Derrick Clark had 147 total yards and a 44-yard TD in Mission Bay's 36-13 win over West Hills. It was supposedly an upset, but that's a pretty decisive win.

I'll add other notable performances as I cobble together the results and stats. Expect the full report on Tuesday.
