Attended today's practice today (was a little late). Here's a bit of a run down of what I saw:
There were lots of coaches from different HS and JC programs out at practice today. Some were carrying informational sheets with "Tony Franklin System" at the top. Looks like they are in town for the TFS convention in Walnut Creek over the weekend.
The first team Oline was the same as it's been the last few practices: Johnson (LT), Borroyo (LG), M. Cochran (C), Rigsbee (RG), and Farley at (RT). Second team Oline was mostly Granado (LT), Hinnant (LG), Ooms (C), Trani (RG), and A. Cochran (RT). Thought Vinny Johnson looked decent in his 1v1 reps against the DL as well as Farley.
In general, Goff looked really sharp (although he did have one horrible overthrow that went way over the WR's head). He had one back shoulder to Lawler that was beautiful.
The WRs, as usual, also looked really good with Lawler and Davis making terrific grabs in traffic with decent coverage. Treggs frequently goes up against C. Walker on 1v1s and usually just smokes number 3. Anderson wasn't out there today as far as I could tell, so Powe took most of his reps.
With respect to the RBs, didn't see too much. Although, Vic had a really good run in 11s for about 15 yards that included dragging Rubenzer and others for a few yards.
On the defensive side, really like D. Brown's closing speed and size. He may be learning, but I think he can be pretty good for us. Rubenzer, on the other hand, just doesn't look the part. Was also impressed with Allensworth today...I think he's making a bit of a move. One interesting thing is that they had Wainwright practicing sometimes with the DEs and at other times the LBs. From the looks of it, I think they're going to try him out as a pass rush specialist. The DTs (Looney, Manley, Mekari, and Kelly) were having some success pushing the pocket during 11s. They sacked the QB (Forrest) at least once from the inside. For DE, Kragen is looking fairly good as well as Johnson. Johnson has some wheels and I like his ability to pursue the ball carrier.
Heard there were a couple of scuffles, but I only saw 1. During 11s, Looney threw a punch at Deon Oliver and was "flagged" by the Pac-12 refs on hand. Tate immediately pulled Looney out and had a nice "discussion" with him about the incident.
