It’s Working…

Anyone read the Cal versus Arizona game review on ESPN.com? Here’s the key piece:

California: Injuries have kept the Golden Bears from having their full compliment of players. Including Sunday, Cal has had scholarship players miss a combined 27 games, with part-time 2021-22 starter Jalen Celestine and Hartford transfer Dejuan Clayton yet to play.

Fox has his built in excuse for this year! Just watch, he will be back next season.

OC hire - donor support urgently needed

The Championship Caliber fund was created a year ago to provide a discretionary fund (I prefer war chest) for our head coach to close the gap between Cal football’s budget and other P12 programs. To date, close to $2 million/year for the next 3 years has been pledged.

Additional contributions to this fund are needed NOW in order to help Cal hire the best possible Offensive Coordinator available. Are you tired of seeing a struggling offense? So am I, which is why I give to the fund.

There are important benefits to the various levels of giving. More information: https://calbears.com/news/2021/12/20/championship-caliber-initiative-to-support-cal-football.aspx

I can do my best to answer questions, but I highly suggest you reach out to Adam Brooks to learn more about the program and sign up if possible – 559-389-1853 or atbrooks@berkeley.edu

Conference Championship Saturday

was nice to see $C get run over by that Utah team last night, although how much money does the conference lose by missing out on the CFP once again? I never thought $C was that good, but it was certainly confirmed when Cal was able to put up points on them.

Sonny a slight dog against K State... forgot how hilarious that dude's face is when he's upset.

It's time for a change - Cal needs a new Athletic Director

This is beyond embarrassing. No one is being helped by Jim Knowlton continuing to be the leader of our athletic department. Beyond the indifference to giving Wilcox (a coach who has a 6-25 record against winning FBS teams) an insane contract extension, beyond the Teri McKeever allegations of mishandling, he has proven he cannot hire nor keep his coaches accountable for results as evident by his refusal to fire Fox yet. And most importantly, his reckless handouts of extensions not only cost Cal $$$ but also craters fan support even more.

Cal sports hit an all-time low tonight and it's past time for a change.

Analyzing Cal's potential offensive coordinator candidates, including Jesse's top picks

A very good breakdown here from Jesse. I started on this initially and just felt he'd be able to bring more insight to this particular matter, and I think he did a great job.

Thoughts?!

Big Day - Regents Meeting

UC Regents are meeting today to make a determination on UCLA leaving for the B1G.

The consensus seems to be that they let them walk, but many folks think the Regents will impose some kind of financial penalty on UCLA to be paid to Cal. There is also the chance they do nothing.

Some figures:

The B1G deal numbers have been inflated - the average per year per school take home is $62.5M. UCLA released a report estimating increased travel costs in the neighborhood of $10M by switching conferences (this number almost certainly is a lowball). If you figure the take home, less increased travel expenses is somewhere in the neighborhood of $50-52M AND the Regents impose some kind of financial penalty on UCLA for leaving (say, $5-7M per year), now all of a sudden UCLA's take home is in the $45-47M a year range. Most estimates have a Pac12 that retains the LA market bringing in distributions north of $40M per year on new media rights. All of a sudden, UCLA is faced with a decision to leave the Pac12 for relatively small increased revenues (at least in the near term - 8-10 years) and deal with significant political blowback from fans, stakeholders all while separating the UC schools athletically. Not to mention aligning UCLA with midwestern schools rather than their traditional counterparts on the west coast.

Meeting could get interesting. It's being live streamed if people want to watch it.

OC content

Howdy folks!

I'm putting together the list of names that I've been able to sort of weasel out as legitimate vs illegitimate/full of nonsense right now, I'm somewhere near ~50% done with it after all the hits my list took following Black Sunday.

In the meantime, if you've got any questions about the situation, feel free to pop 'em below. I'll be checking on this thread more frequently than the others - though it might make sense to consolidate a bit.

Offer reaction: Berkeley High WR Jackson Harris talks hometown offer

Berkeley High receiver Jackson Harris has put together an impressive senior season but has flown mostly under the radar. That changed last week as he picked offers from both Cal and Stanford, and now the two rivals are battling it out for the hometown prospect. Harris has built a strong relationship with Burl Toler, and he has a great feel for what the Bears are about being from the area. He is still learning more about Stanford and will take an official visit to the school later this month. He says there is no ill will about Cal taking its time to offer him. He understands that there has been limited room at his position and that the staff still wanted to see more from him. He says the Stanford coaches have pointed out how they don't understand why it took Cal so long to come around. So, that is interesting.

He is set on the two Pac-12 schools right now but says Oregon and Washington State have been communicating with him recently as well. Cal has done a good job of positioning itself well, but he geninuely seems very intrigued by the Cardinal.

Still, Cal provides him with a comfort level he doesn't have anywhere else.

"There's a lot of love there. Everybody's real cool. Everybody loves the sport, and it feels genuine. Coach Toler is obviously a legendary receiver coach. He played at Cal with Aaron Rodgers. He keeps it a hundred. We always talk. Even if I weren't to go to Cal, I'm sure we'd still talk because he's just a great mentor to have. Then all the other staff. Coach [Marshall] Cherrington, that's my guy. We talk all the time. Just fun people. Enjoyable people to be around."
