MBB recruiting: 2024 4-star guard Elijah Moore interested in Cal

Elijah Moore has a wide range of options on the table already, and Cal is one school that he has started to build a relationship with as a 2024 recruit. The New York-based guard has a number of schools keeping persistent with him including Syracuse, Notre Dame, UConn and Alabama, among others. Still, he has built a solid relationship with the staff in Berkeley.

“I’ve been talking to them on a day to day basis. The coach from Cal calls me two to three times a week, and he actually called me when he was at a game."

You can read the full update from Travis Graf at the link up top. He's taking an official visit to Syracuse this weekend.

Cal favored by 14.5 points over Colorado

Line opened up earlier today with Cal favored by 14 points...has moved up to 14.5 as of this evening.

Over/under at around 49 points, so Vegas is expecting this game to be something like Cal 32 - Colorado 17.

FYI a short tidbit on the Colorado firing of Dorrell (from a USA Today article talking about coaches salaries):

At Colorado, fans and alumni bemoan how head coach Karl Dorrell was given a fully guaranteed $18 million contract in early 2020 despite having no apparent competition for his services at the time.
CU has gone 4-15 since starting 4-0 under Dorrell in 2020. On Sunday, the school fired him after an 0-5 start this season, leaving CU on the hook to pay him the $8.7 million left on his contract, though he has a duty to find employment elsewhere and use his new pay to offset what CU owes him.
Was it really necessary for CU to guarantee his whole contract of $18 million through 2024?
CU athletics spokesman David Plati noted that shortly before his hiring at CU, Dorrell had been promoted to assistant head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Coaches are taking risks, too, when they leave one seemingly safe job for another in a volatile profession. Their agents demand financial security in return.

Got another opportunity to watch Cal defensive line commit Tiu Afalava in action Friday night as his team squared off against Serra HS in Gardena. The three-star recruit saw a lot of double teams come his way, but he still managed to make a couple very nice stops in the backfield. Above you can watch nearly all his snaps from Friday's game including the two tackles for loss (~1:04 mark & ~3:01).

Wilcox, Browning watch 2023 DE Frederick Williams III before Oct. 22 OV

Justin Wilcox and Andrew Browning made a stop by Serra High School in Gardena on Friday night, and the Bears had several targets playing in the game including three priorities in the 2023 class. Frederick Williams III is one of the uncommitted prospects who played in the game, and the Serra defensive end is all set to make his return to Berkeley in a little under two weeks. Williams has his official visit with the Bears set for Oct. 22 when Cal hosts Washington giving Williams an opportunity to watch two of the most active teams in his recruitment in one game. He's tentatively planned an official visit with the Huskies in December before he makes his commitment during the early signing period. For now, those are the only two schools he is planning to visit as it stands right now.

That weekend, the Bears will also be hosting his teammate Rodrick Pleasant on an official visit. The four-star cornerback also took an official visit with Williams to Boston College. They are not considered to be a package deal, but the certainly have a good relationship and it is not an accident that they have taken the same two official visits thus far.

"Oh, it's gonna be great," Williams said about seeing Cal with his Rivals250 teammate. "Me and Rod have been doing this for years together, man. We've basically been through all the ups and downs everywhere together, so it's gonna be a beautiful experience."

Hit the link up top for the full update with Williams.

I was at the game on Friday night and shot most of Williams snaps in a big game against Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.). He had some challenges getting going at times but still managed to make his presence felt on a couple plays. He's still hoping to add a little more weight to become more versatile as a defensive lineman, but for now he projects as a defensive end at the next level.

Let's pick the pac-12 games - Week 6

5-1 last week for 22-19 for the year, 1-0 for my lock of the week for 1-4 for the year. https://cal.forums.rivals.com/threads/lets-pick-the-pac-12-games-week-5.31439/

[home team in italics]

Utah by 4 over fUCLA - This line has heavily swing Utah's direction, but I still like Utah here.

UW by 13.5 over ASU - Looks about right. UW covers I guess?

USC by 13 over WSU - Looks about right. WSU covers I guess?

Oregon by 13 over Arizona - Too low. Oregon covers.

Oregon State by 6.5 over Furd - Too low. Oregon State covers. Betting against Colorado and the furd until they prove otherwise.

Non conference lock of the week: Georgia by 29.5 over Auburn - Auburn covers.

Put together some game clips of Cal DE target Frederick Williams III from earlier in the season ahead of his game this week and his official visit with the Bears later in the month. He's definitely improved since I saw him back in the spring. He's added some weight and looks the part of a Power Five-level defensive end more now. He hasn't lost speed, which is key. He's a nice looking prospect, and someone Cal is very much in the mix for right now as he continues to push forward in the process.

Posted this quick game clips story on Cal offensive line target Sean Scott from West Ranch High School in the Valencia area. His team is undefeated and its offense is dominant. He's got some work to do before he's a polished player, but the size is there and he has a lot of natural athleticism. He's currently committed to SMU but on the Bears radar after an offer back in late August.

Tracking the commits: Vadrawale shined last week

Here's my latest look at how Cal's commits performed in their latest games. There were a few really big performances once again from Nyziah Hunter and Ben Marshall, but nobody played better last week than athlete commit Sailasa Vadrawale who led his team in both receiving yards and tackles. He ended the night with 15 tackles in a really impressive showing. It has earned him a spot as one of the candidates for NorCal multi-purpose player of the week from CalHi Sports.
