run ball; thx

this isn't gonna matter because there's only one game left in the season, geep isn't the OC next year, etc etc etc and it isn't obviously this reductive (because when they started ****ing running it finally, they got ott out into space first, as opposed to completely ignoring his existence as a runner or slashing him inside in the first few quarters) but this game turned in part, once they decided run the ball, lol

We ran the ball 0 times in the first, 6 times for 22 yards in the second, 4 times for 5 yards in the third, and 12 for 86 in the 4th. (some of these passes I think were RPO choices but generally speaking i thought we needed more intentionality there)

These are the first 9 of those touches, before Ott's last 3 carries for 9 yards to seal the game off the pick:
6 yards, 8 yards, 14 yards all ott touches on the td drive to close to 17-12
6, -1, 21 to get us into RZ (completely inexcusable plummer int)
15, 6, 2 on the first try at a clock killing drive (we woulda got it without yet another unnecessary penalty)

You get the idea. This coulda been won by many more points if we thought about it earlier.

Today's Cal football Zoom schedule ...

11:30 am Justin Wilcox
12:00 pm Peter Sirmon
12:15 pm Joe Starkey
1 pm Jack Plummer
1:15 pm Craig Woodson

I will be on there and will provide real time updates in this thread as well as a story soon thereafter.

Still researching for names I want to put on our OC hot board -- would like it to have some good depth. I'll keep working on that tonight. We also have basketball against San Diego at 7 p.m. -- a showdown of 0-2 teams!

wilcox and musgrave

I know that this topic is played out, but it still blows my mind that Justin Wilcox literally flushed his head coaching career by pinning it all on a retired NFL OC, after three seasons of great defense and poor offense. AND after two seasons of it clearly not working, he doubled down! Last offseason would have been the perfect time to move on from Musgrave and bring in a new OC alongside a new qb and all the skill talent we had coming up.

By now Wilcox’s problems go beyond the OC, but a good hire in 2020 and this all could have gone very differently. it’s just kind of sad.
