Cal’s NFL Draft Prospects

For 2023 — just Daniel Scott, rd 5-7?

For 2024 — I could see both Hunter and Sirmon as Rd 2-3 guys depending on how their 2023 seasons play out. And BRETT JOHNSON is a tbd based on how his recovery goes (fingers crossed). Coleman might have been a rd 5-7 guy at guard if he stayed and got to move to the interior line, but that’s a moot point now.

Anyone else y’all see as NFL prospects in the next two drafts?

Former 5-star set to visit Cal this weekend

I know @Fire Starkey has his Texas A&M thread going, but figured this was big enough to get its own thread. Cal is one of the final four schools still in the mix with Texas A&M redshirt freshman defensive end transfer Tunmise Adeleye who is currently rated as the No. 6 overall player in the transfer portal by Rivals. The former five-star prospect signed with the Aggies in 2020 and sat out the 2021 season before playing in a couple games this season with TAMU.

He was the 25th-ranked prospect in the 2021 class according to Rivals and he finished with two dozen offers as many of the top programs around the country were part of the picture with him. Michigan State, Miami and USC are the other four schools to make his final group. The Spartans hosted him over the weekend and seem to have the inside track to his commitment, but he will visit Miami starting tomorrow before getting out to Berkeley this weekend. A visit to USC has not been set as of now.

New offer in Texas

Cal has offered an under-the-radar outside linebacker today. Mansfield (Texas) Lake Ridge High School prospect Rylan Kennedy has added the Bears to his list, and I'm going to be honest I didn't know a whole lot about him as a football player until tonight. He's not someone who has generated a lot of buzz on the recruiting scene up to this point. Like so many edge rushers in this class, Kennedy is a multi-sport athlete who plays basketball in addition to playing football. The 6-foot-5 prospect is also a high jumper at the high school level. He has mostly been known as a basketball prospect in high school and is newer to football. Those players tend to have a lot of upside and can translate well to the football field.

I just got off the phone with him, and he's definitely excited about the Bears and is thinking he will visit in December. His only other offer up to this point came from Missouri Southern. He was honestly shocked when he got the call from Cal and says he nearly cried. He only started playing football again this season after giving it up before starting high school to focus on hoops. His film is definitely impressive and I suspect more schools are going to start paying attention to him, so Cal should move quickly. He says Washington, Utah and Houston have already started to reach out.

He is a versatile linebacker who can get to the quarterback and has a ton of natural athleticism at the position. I'll have a full update on him later, but he is definitely excited about the chance of to play for the Bears. He said the staff jumped on Zoom call with him earlier tonight and gave him a virtual tour.

His senior season recently came to an end, but he turned in a heck of a performance for a first-year player. He led his team with four sacks and was third on the team with 48 tackles. He also finished the season second with eight tackles for loss.

Update: 2023 QB CJ Tiller talks Cal offer

CJ Tiller is committed to Boise State, but he is clear about the fact that he wants to take all five of his official visits if he can. Cal as entered the picture as one of the schools Tiller is now likely to visit in the fall after offering him over the weekend. He is originally from Arizona but playing in California now down at Rancho Cucamonga High where he has started to see his stock rise heading into his senior season. He was unaware that Cal was even interested, but that quickly went away as he spoke with Bill Musgrave and was offered by the Bears. Now, it's a program he has a lot of interest in as he looks ahead to figure out if a school will pull him away from the Broncos.

"They called me and the first time they were just telling me about their offense, the history with Aaron Rodgers and Jared Goff being there, and numerous other guys that have went to the league. He talked to me about that and we ended the conversation there. Then I’m driving on the freeway and I get a call from him again, and he just throws the offer. So, it’s very exciting to see. I am committed right now, but I do expect to take all five of my official visits and see how things work from there.”

Tiller passed for 2,458 yards to go with 27 passing touchdowns against eight interceptions last season as a junior at Williams Field HS in Gilbert, Arizona. He has trained with the same QB coach as Kai Millner and Jack Plummer in Arizona, so there is some familiarity there. He is planning on graduating early, so his hope is to move quickly once the season begins to come to a final decision about his future.
