"How NOT to coach a final two minute game sequence"
Atrocious and embarrassing to have two most important possessions of the game end in a Sam Singer contested jumper and Roger Moute Bidias turnover. You have to call TO and get Brown and Mathews into the game. Not a subjective thing, not a maybe thing, it HAS to happen. Less than two minutes to play!!
And then watching Brown and Rabb not get to the table in time to substitute in during the FTs?! Galling. The other unforgiveable sin was wasting 25 seconds when we were down 4 with a minute to go. We had to have the 2:1. Had to have it, yet we sat on the ball?! Our two next possessions get us three point plays because we attack in the first five seconds of the possession but at the 1 minute mark we don't go?!!
Credit to Richmond for hitting big shots and all their FTs down the stretch. And credit to Coach Martin for switching to a 2-3 zone but that does not excuse him from how he lost the game tonight.
Before the switch to the 2-3, I didn't understand anything we were doing on defense. They clearly were eating our switches alive and they had mismatches with their forwards posting up our guards. Yet we NEVER tried to put Rooks in the game. Not ONCE?! And watching the two teams, Richmond was disciplined and trusting in their team defense, they did not sag down into the post yet we did all night, freeing them up for open jumper after open jumper. The coaching mismatch was tremendous for the second night in a row.
