The thread on Trent Irwin, and comments about Jahvid and Desean, got me thinking about this.
What are some of the most impressive displays of pure, flat out athleticism you have seen from Cal football players? Here's a list that I compiled off the top of my head. (My personal experience with Cal football goes back "only" to Fall 1977, so no Muncie, Roth, Bartkowski, or Walker in my list. I also realize that it is lacking, quite noticeably, in terms of defensive feats.) This is in no particular order:
1. Jahvid in a home game against the Huskies. Oh my gawd. 300 yards rushing, and several long runs to the house.
2. Desean's punt return against Tennessee. Reversing field and outrunning everyone. Holy Sheyt.
3. Russell White taking the opening kickoff to the house against the Miami Hurricanes at CMS in 1991. We lost, but Russell showed he was an elite player.
4. Russell White against USC in 1991, when we absolutely destroyed them.
5. Mack absolutely destroying nose tackle after nose tackle, quite frequently after the whistle had blown. LOL...
6. Marshawn's home game against UW (the one where he commandeered the cart post game).
7. A.A. Ron Rodgers against USC at the Coliseum in 2004.
8. Deltha O'neal (IMO the most physically gifted DB Cal has EVER had) taking multiple picks and punt returns back to the house in his last season at Cal.
9. Pain Train against ASU (at Tempe, don't recall the year),in the game where he blew up their quarterback on a sack to clinch the win.,
10.. Shane Vereen in that Big Game where he had something like 40 carries.
This is a woefully inadequate list, but I am sure there will be plenty of people to add to or correct it.
