On the telecast, Monty said that the new rules ( there are 30 of them) which restrict defensive players at the point of attack will force many coaches into using more zone defenses . So, CM needs to employ offensive systems which will effectively counter this strategy. We have one reliable deep threat ( Mathews) three players who are somewhat less reliable ( Wallace, Brown and Bird) and two who will be inconsistent due to lack of playing time ( Domingo and Singer) CM needs to figure this out in a hurry--we can expect more and more zone defenses for two reasons--the first reason is that zone defenses tend to neutralize teams who have excellent drivers, and, the second reason is that the new rules will force opposing coaches to use zones as a default option. We shall see--- I wish I could say I am optimistic--I am neutral at this point---i'm from Missouri ( the old Missouri---not the idiotic new Missouri)
