Hey guys, I just spoke with Don Coleman, the 2016 point guard from Lawson State CC in Alabama who got the offer from Cal. He is a really humble and down-to-earth young man. I'm really impressed with his demeanor. He told me "I’ve just stayed humble and knew it was going to be a long process." He also talked about how much it helped for him to grow physically. He said he grew and inch and a half, which really helped him get noticed by the Cal staff. He says Coach Martin really liked his size and his frame. Coleman says he can play the 1 or the 2 though he mostly plays the 1 now. He says he gets to the hole well, has a nice mid-range game, can shoot the three, has a good foul shooting percentage, etc. He also looks to get teammates involved. He says he is a good defender but could get better. He also wants to be a better leader and be more vocal on the court.
As far as how he was found, Coach Martin first reached out to him in October and then Coach Webster watched him practice in December and was really impressed with his game. He's in contact with both Coach Martin and Coach Webster, but Coach Webster is the guy who he is closest with.
As far as what other programs are interested in him, Colorado State appears to be next best program to have offered him. Georgia State and Kennesaw State have offered as well while Georgia and Georgia Tech have expressed interest. Ole Miss was interested in him, too but they've cooled on him.
He hopes to make a decision no later in March and can play in 2016. There ya go! The rest will be saved for the article!
