I always used to enjoy March Madness, even though Cal was rarely in the Tournament, much less a factor. But I have never been less interested than I am this year. I hope that will change as the Tournament cranks up, but I don't think so.
College basketball is not played at as high a level as it was a decade or two ago, because the top players now either go straight to the pros or are "one and done" guys,
More importantly, the FBI investigation and developing scandal, along with the prior scandals involving Louisville and UNC, have really put a kibosh on my interest. College basketball just seems incredibly corrupt and non-competitive. I think it is in need of a major fix (perhaps a bad word choice there, but I think you know what I mean).
The fact that Cal is the single worst basketball team in the Power 5 only adds to my current sense of ennui. Maybe it would be different if I was a big sports gambler.
How about you?
