#1. Asha Thomas can run the offense: With Breanna Cavanaugh out for what is likely the season due to a concussion, Asha Thomas will have to carry the load at point guard. However, she appears up to the challenge, scoring 18 points and dishing out 7 assists. She pushes the ball really well and is very confident as a floor general.

#2. Kristine Anigwe is the real deal: Kristine showed some freshman jitters a little bit early on, but overall I really liked what I saw from her. She had 19 points and 4 rebounds on 8-8 shooting from the field and 3-5 shooting from the foul line. She was very impressive.

#3. Courtney Range can shoot: Expect Courtney Range to hit a lot of threes this season. She scored 13 points and connected on both of her three-point shot attempts.

#4. Freshman Chen Yue appears ready to contribute: Chen Yue is a freshman center from China and she looked really impressive in her opening game. What made her game impressive was that she displayed an ability to a lot of things: Shoot, pass, rebound, and defend. She is a very smart and intelligent basketball player.

#5. Similar to the men's team, the women's team could have done a better job taking care of the ball: The Cal women had a 20 assists and 14 turnovers for a 1.43 assist-to-turover ratio. The too need to take better care of the ball.
