Cal hosted three-star running back Nate Sheppard over the weekend on his first trip to the Bay Area. Running backs coach Aristotle Thompson has done a good job of selling the Louisiana native on the chance to play early with the Bears, but Sheppard wanted to get a feel for the school and area on its own as well.
Duke hosted him a few weeks ago and he'll visit Northwestern this week then come to a decision. The Bears are right in the mix, and left him with a positive impression over the weekend.
"Obviously, it's different from the South, so that's something that was new for me. I haven't been that far up in California before, so that was the first time. I was really surprised by their facilities and their campus. I knew it was a nice high-academic school, but I didn't know their facilities were so nice and how nice their campus is. Then, the coaching staff. Coach AT is so running back sound, and his coaching style is so unique to him."
