What: The Cal men’s basketball team will be presented with a custom-made, eight-foot, hand-crafted surfboard to celebrate its participation in the 2017 Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The presentation will take place during the Golden Bears’ football game against USC on Saturday.
When: The presentation will take place in the north end zone during the third timeout of the first quarter.
About Cal and the Maui Jim Maui Invitational:Cal will make its third appearance in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational this November. The Bears own a 4-3 record in their two previous trips to the Tournament in 1996 and 2013.
2017 Maui Jim Maui Invitational Field: The 2017 field, which includes Cal, LSU, Marquette, Michigan, Notre Dame, VCU, Wichita State and host Chaminade, features some of the most successful programs of this decade. Since the 2010-11 season, the teams have combined for 32 total NCAA Tournament appearances, 11 Sweet 16 berths, four Elite Eights and three Final Fours, while Michigan, Notre Dame, VCU and Wichita State rank among the top 30 nationally in wins. The teams are led by established head coaches, who have each been to at least one Final Four and combine for 17 total appearances. The Maui Jim Maui Invitational will be held Nov. 20-22, with all 12 games televised on ESPN Networks. The Golden Bears open the Tournament against Wichita State at 2 p.m. PT on ESPN2.
