Bowers or Browning

After seeing both these guys play on TV, I am feeling good about Cal and Bowers. Both Browning and Bowers look like high character kids, the difference I see is Bowers looks more athletic in the pocket . His movement for a high school kid is pretty good and he keeps his eyes down field. Miami Central had more talent, yet Bowers was able to make positive plays happen. Browning is great in Folsom's system but does throw picks when facing more talented teams when under pressure, example Grant. Folsom is so good at what they do it is hard to tell if Browning is as good an athlete as Bowers.

Malik McMorris...

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive lineman Malik McMorris[/B] just rolled through registration and had perhaps the shortest commute of all the attendees. He's down to Army, UC Davis, Holy Cross and Cal Poly SLO ... But the catch is that he could have a spot at Cal as a preferred walk-on. Right now, it looks like he's got to figure out the financial side of things in Berkeley to go there. He likes the football aspect, the academic aspect and also has a couple former teammates there that have gone through the walk-on process.

Smith/Singer Factor

When Smith was a senior, if he played a lot that usually was not good news. Singer played 33 minutes against CSUB. Similar conclusion. Marftin says he works hard in the gym esp. on his shot. Okoroh could work all day on his three pointer with the same results. Moute played limited minutes and played some good D near the end. I still think a starting lineup with Moute instead of Singer would have been far preferable. You would at least get better D and get the ball in Wallace's hands instead of Singer. Singer starts and Cal sleep walks and constantly falls into a hole. Let Wallace put pressure on the D from the beginning and not just when we are down and headed for a loss.

Pac 12 Basketball - Lots of NIT Slots

The average RPI for Pac 12 schools is 97. In the latest games Cal, Wash., Colorado and UCLA all lost to powerhouses like CSUB, Stony Brook, Alabama and Hawaii! Now they start beating up on each other which limits any opportunity to improve their RPI, playing mostly teams with high scores. You would have to beat up on AZ and Utah which is highly unlikely. Cal RPI is 112. That loss to CSUB is a disastrous loss and will come back to haunt them. The Pac 12 will likely get 3 teams into the tournament and maybe a fourth as a play-in team. Anything more would require charity from the selection team. The NIT will be full of Pac 12 teams including Cal.

Coaching moves

Lots of talk that Harbaugh has accepted the UM position and it will be announced early Tuesday. Also, this could affect some PAC 12 schools recruiting classes if it does indeed happen. I don't really know what to think here.

Also sounds like Whittingham and the Utah AD are pretty much done with each other, he is actively looking for new gigs feels he has no support from the athletic dept can't pay his coach's competitive salaries. Have a feeling next yr might be his last yr in Utah. Unless Harbaugh rumors are false, Whittingham has been talked about as the backup option.

Strangest play ever?

with less than a minute left, Cal needed one stop to get the ball back for the last possession down only two
that would have been a very good situation for us at that point in the game

So what happens?

Cal defense played great resulting in their big lying flat on his back directly under the basket...
...so he throws it direct up toward the basket

was he trying to shoot?

what ever, because it confused the two Cal guys standing over him long enough for a Bakersfield guard to step in and get the rebound, extending the play and forcing us to foul their best FT shooter

game over
