Important Rivals tech update

In preparation for our massive message board/site upgrades, Rivals & Yahoo engineers began testing last night, and will continue on a nightly basis through NSD (for anyone that had weird log-in problems, this is why -- sorry again Robert, hugs and handpounds from the GBR team).

Today, Friday night, will be our most critical test and will focus on site security. Every single Rivals subscriber -- including Publishers & site staff -- will be automatically logged out at 10pm PT. Every single user will then be required to log back in with their username and password that they are registered with -- as they would normally log in on any day. That should be the only issues users will experience heading into NSD.

Since the Call Center will be closed, users who have log-in issues beyond new Passwords can email Subscriptions@Rivals.com for immediate remedy.

Warriors

They are now 30-5, and are on pace to win 70 games. Don't think they can keep that up, but if they just go 30-17 over the remainder of the regular season, they will win 60 games. I'm thinking that, barring serious injury issues, 65 wins is a real possibility. Just mindblowing.

Do you think they will be the top seed in the West come playoff time?

Cal in mix for Rivals100 OL

Oklahoma City (Okla.) Casady OL Josh Wariboko has one official visit left and he is looking to schedule something with Cal or Florida. It does not sound like he has anything scheduled yet, but Cal is one school he is eyeing for that final visit. That said he does have a current top three of Oklahoma, UCLA, and Ohio State, and the thought is his recruiting process will come down to OU and UCLA.

Way too early 2015 college football Top 25

Soon after the Buckeyes won the National Championship, everybody starting publishing their way too early Top 25 for the 2015 season that is still ~7-8 months away.

I did a quick compilation of five different lists: Athlon Sports, ESPN, USA Today, Jon Wilner, and Vegas Insider (which provides odds of winning the next National Championship).

Here are the relevant insights for Cal:
1) Cal will play anywhere from 4 to 7 teams listed in the Top 25, depending on what Top 25 ranking you use
2) The four teams that are in the Top 25 for all five lists are: Oregon, USC, UCLA and Arizona State. The three teams that are sometimes in the Top 25 include: Stanfurd, Utah, and Texas (each of them mentioned in just 2 of 5 lists)
3) Just like the 2014 season, the first half of the season is relatively easier. Only two of the Top 25 opponents are in the first six games: Texas which is our 3rd game, Utah which is our 6th game.
4) The back half of the season is brutal. After our bye week before game 7, we then play 5 teams who are in the Top 25 ranking. That includes all four consensus Top 25 picks (UCLA, USC, and Oregon in consecutive weeks. Then Arizona State to close out the regular season.)

Caveat: Of course about one year ago, a lot of these way too early Top 25 lists ended up being wrong.

However, thought it worth sharing as we begin to start looking forward to the 2015 season. Bears clearly need to win a lot of games early if they hope to go bowling. I'm hoping Cal's record after the first 6 games is 4-2 or maybe even 5-1.

College QB's and the upcoming NFL Draft

I'm not sure if all of these guys will be coming out but, off the top of my head, I think the NFL Draft order for college QB's should be something like this:

1. Mariota
2. Winston
3. Cardale Jones
4. Petty (Baylor QB)
5. Hundley

Mariota may be a tad small for the pros (and his durability therefore a concern), but his speed and (in particular) his skill at quickly going through his progressions and throwing accurately while on the move put him (IMO) at the top of the heap. But I could understand if others see it differently. There are also likely a couple of elite college QB's whom I have overlooked.

How would you rank the college QB's in terms of their draft order?

At least we're not Duke

Watching Coach K lose by 16 at home to Miami was like watching a dumpster fire collapse on itself.

Coach K seems to do better when he isn't loading his team full of 5*s. Only 2 of his 2010 championship team starters were drafted and only one is doing anything of note in the league (Plumlee). Recruiting has been up at Duke is recent years and their production has going straight into the can.

4-star Rivals150 official visitor on campus right now

Just got a call from Lindsay, who's driving so she won't be able to post this for a bit but wanted to get it up: 4-star Rivals150 2016 big Zach Collins just arrived in Berkeley for an official visit, which is important because 1) this is mad early for a 2016 to take an official, and 2) he already took an unofficial to Berkeley at the end of November so this could be a pretty good sign.
