Bit of GBR-only breaking news for you tonight

Spoke with Antoine Albert tonight, he said he came up one class short of qualifying, will have to complete that class before he can don the blue and gold. He said he'll join the team in May once he finishes up the class at DVC, but plans to be on the field for practices during the spring supporting his teammates-to-be. Said he also plans to spend a lot of time in the film/weight room getting his body/mind ready.

Think he could've been a day 1 starter with a good spring to get the JuCo kinks out, but not getting here until summer could impact that (as we saw it did with a lot of the late-arriving JuCo guys last year). He's still signed and sealed and putting himself all in, which is the really good news, but it's a bit of little bit of a body blow when it comes to remaking the secondary.

Tough Times

Cal's men BB team's season is going in the toilet (I watched them last night; they are the most boring team ever; moreover, they have not adjusted to the adjustments everyone has made on them after they started well, which means in part coaching is not great - we are going to get rolled by UA), which will undoubtedlky make it harder to pull the star recruits we've been talking about for a while and Cal's FB recruiting also appears to be going in the toilet with our recruits getting poached left and right or not having the classes required (I always wonder how this is possible - it can't be that hard to determine can it?) as a prelude to yet another long season next year.

Is there any good news out there? Anyone?

New official confirmed for Feb. 1

SDSU commit Ronley Lakalaka, Kanawai Noa's Punahou teammate. Rated a 3-star LB by another site, which I mention here because the number of recruiting sites that actually see the Hawaii kids are pretty limited, so just to give you an idea of where he registers elsewhere.

Has offers from SDSU and Hawaii right now, said Cal and WSU have offered as well but we're trying to confirm those. Highlights here. Brother is a RB at Hawaii right now.

This weekend's visitor list

MLK Clsiic at Haas

In the final game, Moreau Catholic beat Mitty in a tight game. Moreau was led by Cal 2016 commit, Frayer, and offeree, 2017 PG, Mitstead. Mitty was led by Ben Kone who probably has a Cal offer. As a sophomore, Milstead is rated as one of the country's top PGs. Cal can have good recruiting classes with No. Calif. players.

Oregon St recruiting going through tough times...

In case you feel bad about Cal football recruiting, comparing it to Oregon State will make you feel much better.

With Coach Riley out and Coach Andersen in, there has been the expected turmoil with recruits. Earlier in December, Oregon State had 17 recruits. As of tonight, they are down to 11 given the decommitment of TE Matt Snyder (flipped to Nebraska) and the loss of one of their top DB commits Demeon Baber (article linked) which may be due to loss of interest by the new staff.

Of the 11 commits they do still have, 7 of the 11 are 2 star commits. Ouch.

Going to be interesting to see how Coach Andersen can close out the recruiting season until NSD.

New Academic Rules May Be Harsher For Cal

There was an interesting article this morning in the CC Times about the new academic rules Janet N is imposing on the PAC 12 which affect the compensation of ADs and coaches, It dawned on me that such rules may turn out to be tougher on Cal athletics, because a 2.0 average at Cal with a decent course load requirement is harder to achieve and realistically different than most other PAC schools. Cal is known as a school that puts enormous pressure on it undergrads, with tough grading and lots of work to be done in a very competitive academic environment. No wonder Sonny is recruiting scholars instead of athletes.

Question for Adam Gorney

Not saying you were responsible but I am just wondering how:
A) Lonny Powell didn't make the top 250
B) ross bowers didn't get a 4th star

Also those semper fi QBs got rating bumps despite not being able to hit the back of a barn in the bowl game

Rivals is much more accurate than espn 247 and scout when it comes to rankings

I would just like to hear the explanation for Powell and bowers

"Hottest College Sororities by School" - LOL

I was perusing an article on the Web about Steph Curry's bet with his mother (whereby he pays her $100 per turnover for "excess turnovers") when I noticed an advert/link for a blurb entited "Hottest College Sororities by School: The list may surprise you." (It certainly did.)

I had to click on it, and it took me to a website called "americanlivewire.com." The link is set forth below. The first photo was of some gals who are purported to be from USC. The second photo (which I am trying to paster here and which I hope comes through) purports to be of the "hot sorority girls" from Stanford. LOL, check out the photo! Moreover, check out the caption, which is just too funny. "Ivy League." "Hottest babes." ROFL. I don't think this is gonna set off any tsunamis.

Brains and beauty don't always go together, but in this case they absolutely do. Stanford is one of the most prestigious schools in the Ivy League but beyond that, the school is also home to some of the hottest babes in the country. If a degree from a prestigious college wasn't enough reason to go to Stanford, the girls should give you another to aim high.
