Why Cal basketball season could already be over

Based on how the conference tournaments are shaking out it looks like a pretty sure thing Cal won't make the NIT, which leaves the 7-year-old 16-team College Basketball Invitational (CBI baby!), which Cal would actually potentially be a 1 or 2 seed in were they to accept an invite. Here's the catch though and why it's not a sure thing they would: To host a CBI game, teams have to pay $50,000, and that fee goes up to $75,000 for the right to host semifinals, and as a 1 or 2 seed Cal would host every game until they reached the championship. In a basketball crazed market you can offset the cost with ticket sales and concessions and all that, in the crowded Bay Area market though that's obviously a bigger challenge. Should be interesting (especially with Cal's budgetary issues) to see what Mike Williams decides to do here.
