What is your initial reaction when you see a recruit's star rating? (Just the star rating, leaving out his offer list, his video footage, etc., which will obviously inform your eventual, overall opinion of a recruit.) I'm just interested in what your initial thought is upon learning of a kid's star rating. Here is what I generally think:
5 Star - We're not gonna get this guy. Fuggetaboutit. (That has changed in basketball, to be sure, but it still applies in football.)
4 Star - I hope our coaches have offered this guy, that his grades are half-ass decent, and that our coaches stay on him unless and until he gives us an indication that he is not interested. His being a Bay Area kid or interested in academics would be a huge plus.
3 Star - We should give serious consideration to offering him if his video, grades, and interaction with our coaches looks promising. If he's a DL or an OL, we should offer him, period.
2 Star - Yawn. Unless there is some unique factor underlying his rating, and he has physical attributes that belie his rating..
1 Star - Are you kidding? No.
