There doesn't appear to be post-practice videos from the Utes...instead they just have some summary comments. Here are the comments from the two practices this week (that we're open to the media):
From Coach Whittingham ...
• The new Rice-Eccles Stadium FieldTurf feels nice and soft. The players seem to like it.
• Coming off the bye week, he is glad they have an extra day to prepare for Cal.
• The defense coming up with more takeaways this season has nothing to do with different schemes they are running, it is just the defense capitalizing on its opportunities.
• The ball skills have been at a high level and the Utes are taking advantage and making plays.
Impressions form the Utah Players and Coaches ...
Free Safety Marcus Williams
• Expects Cal to come out and play a great game.
• The defense and the entire team needs to come out strong.
• The team is concentrating on preparing well and playing hard in practice.
Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach John Pease
• Big games make things easier for a team to concentrate.
• Doesn't understand why road teams have been so successful in the Pac-12 lately, maybe no-huddle offenses with hand signals limiting effect of crowd noise on a game. Communication is a big thing.
• Cal's Jared Goff reminds him of former TCU quarterback and current Cincinnati Bengal Andy Dalton. He really recognizes coverages well.
• His defense just has to keep pushing to rush the quarterback.
• Will have a menu of mixed play calls to use after watching film.
Impressions form the Utah Players ...
Quarterback Travis Wilson
• The team is ready to go and is just keeping on doing what it has been doing.
• He’s just trying to help the team.
• The defense is playing great right now.
• Cal’s defense is full of playmakers.
Right Tackle J.J. Dielman
• The Rice-Eccles Stadium crowd is a huge factor. The MUSS is loud. He’s glad he doesn’t have to deal with the noise on Saturday night.
• Excited to finally get back and play in front of the home fans.
• The Utes do the same thing every week to prepare regardless of whether their opponent is ranked No. 1 or unranked.
Defensive End Hunter Dimick
• Cal quarterback Jared Goff is extremely accurate.
• Dimick is not a big talker. He lets his actions do the talking.
• All phases have to be hitting to be successful on Saturday night.
• The Ute defense is weary of Cal’s deep threats.
• The entire team is focused on working hard and doing their best.
My comment: Nice to see that they believe "Cal's defense is full of playmakers"...I sure hope that is true on Saturday night!
