The Final Few Days for the 2018 Class:

There’s four players the Bears are targeting with their final three spots in the class. We’ve broken them down a bunch over the past week or so, so I’ll give you a quick rundown here.

Joseph Ogunbanjo: The Alief Taylor defensive end/outside linebacker will be signing on Wednesday, announcing then as well between Cal and Baylor. It’s been trending toward Cal for a while after his visit and when he told me that he wasn’t taking any more visits, that seemed like a clear indicator that he’s made his decision.

Christian Jones: Just committed to Texas, there goes that one

John Torchio
: Just announced his commitment to Wisconsin

DJ Brown: He was down to Notre Dame, Northwestern and Cal, and he decommitted from Virginia right after his Notre Dame visit. I think that’s the most telling part about his recruitment and I think he ends up in South Bend.

PWOs:

The preferred walk-on group is worth noting, as Cal is either bringing guys in with the requisite size who may not have the skills built up, or guys who may have some G5 Offers, but want to go to Cal either for the academics, to play football at a bigger school, or otherwise. Also a few local names to boot.

Just going to run through all of them briefly, their senior highlights will be linked if you click on their name

Parker Bosche, DE/OLB, St Mary’s HS, Berkeley, CA

A 6’4”, 235 lb OLB type from right in Cal’s backyard. Has the size, with long arms in getting off blockers.

Ben Skinner, WR, Marin Catholic, Kentfield, CA

1025 receiving yards for the year for Skinner (a 6’2”, 210 lb WR/TE for Goff’s former school), as he benefited from Spencer Petras being an excellent passer. An all-league player for the Wildcats

Robby Rowell, QB, Acalanes, Lafayette, CA

41 TDs to 4 INTs passing, 2724 yards passing while completing 63% of his passes. Also ran for 539 yards and 5 TDs (5.2 YPC). Good passer, not the best arm, but he did a lot for a very good Acalanes team this past year.

Zach Angelillo, LB, San Joaquin Memorial HS, Fresno, CA

A 6’2” 220 lb linebacker who decided on going to Cal instead of taking a scholarship offer from Fresno State. Been alluded to as someone who’ll immediately make an impact on special teams, as a solid tackler in space. Had 133 tackles, 9.5 TFLs, 4 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries as a senior.

Collin Flintoft, Punter, Loyola HS, Los Angeles, CA

A high academic kid who can kick a football far. I don’t have much commentary here to be honest, other than Charlie Ragle and Miguel Reveles being excited about him

Erick Nisich, Lineman, Dos Pueblos HS, Goleta, CA

Listed around 6’5” and 270, he’s a two sport athlete, a wrestler in addition to playing football, that’s something that Wilcox loves (note: Johnny Adams did wrestling in high school as well, something Wilcox brought up at early signing day as something he was excited about with Adams). Another big body with the size to contribute on the scout team, had offers from Army and UC Davis.

Tommy Vanis, OLB/WR, Loyola HS, Los Angeles, CA

Listed at 6'1", 210, someone on Twitter said he did everything for Loyola except snap the ball, which bodes well for him. Good to have another LB body there too

One Last Note:

In honor of Nick Foles being named Super Bowl MVP, let's remember the time where he tried to throw two passes in one play against Cal in 2009 , which led to a penalty, taking them out of field goal range. They didn't convert a 4th and 17, and Shane Vereen iced the game with a 61 yard TD run.
