Talked to the San Marcos DB just now while he was at the airport. Full story coming, here are the highlights:
He's announcing his decision this Friday (1/29). Finalists will be Cal, Utah, Arizona, San Diego State, and maybe Nevada.
He loved the Cal visit. First time up there. Highlight was obviously the basketball game, but also the stadium, education, relationship with the other recruits, and the amazing views he seemed to see everywhere.
On his finalists:
Cal: #1 public school in the world, great football, program back on the rise, great education, facilites, and guys to play with.
SDSU: it's home, kind of a fallback plan, great option if he wanted to stay home (these were all his words. Safe to say, the Aztecs don't seem to be a threat).
Arizona: Likes the coaches, nice campus and facilities, good education (wut).
Utah: great relationship with the coaches and recruits. Likes their facilities too.
Cal likes him at DB, think he could play anywhere but might be best at the nickel. Could see him maybe contributing on offense in some capacity too. He's hearing similar things from the other schools as well.
Derrick Clark hosted him, which he loved. Clark is a familiar face as a fellow SD native, and basically recruited him the whole time, as did the other commits.
My two cents: Burgess is waiting till Friday to announce his commitment, but I feel very good about where Cal is at with him. Very. Good.
