Rich Lyons has commented further on the future of Cal Athletics following the news this week that Jim Knowlton will be retiring from his post as athletic director for the Bears. In Lyons' letter to fans, the chancellor confirms that new co-athletic directors Jay Larson and Jenny Simon-O'Neill will remain in that role through the upcoming academic year. Additionally, the reporting structure has been made official with Justin Wilcox reporting to football general manager Ron Rivera.

All of this has been known but is now official as the Bears enact a new "innovative leadership structure" that will likely put a lot of the decision-making power within the hands of several people moving forward rather than a singular athletic director.
