I'm a fan of this kid as evidenced by the debate DO and I had before the season about the type of year he would have in 2015 (this might be the first time DO got it wrong). ![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
He's clearly quick/fast and tough with good balance and really good vision.
That said, he's over rated as a college football running back (he's exceptional as a returner). Here's why:
- on 65% of his runs from scrimmage he is untouched for the first 5+ yards. That's CRAZY good blocking.
- He uses his good burst to make those runs longer than 5 yards and by that time has such good momentum that he can break tackles. Hit him after 3-4 yards and NOTHING.
- And then his good vision can often allow him to take those runs and make them home runs
- The other 35% of the runs, he creates close to NOTHING. Can't push the pile, rarely if ever makes someone miss in the backfield and doesn't break tackles until and unless he's going full speed.
Very good college player but IMO behind that OL, he's not in the top 15-20 most talented. Sanders and Love averaged more YPC than Christian and they used Wright almost exclusively in short yardage and goal line situations for a reason.
Stanford has one of the best run blocking OLs that I've seen in a long time. Very, very special.
