The Question: How many wins will Cal Football get in 2015, if the defense improves?
The defense is the key to Cal having a breakthrough in 2015. Assuming Goff (and other key players like Lasco and the OL) stay healthy, I think our offense will be Top 10 nationally in 2015 like it was in 2014 in scoring offense (~38 points per game, ppg).
How good will our defense be though? As we all know, that is the BIG question. Last year 2014 it was in the bottom ~5 nationally, giving up ~40 ppg to opponents.
In several recent threads, folks have posted how many wins they thought Cal would have in 2015 if the defense improves (e.g. Cal 59 just wrote that Rick Neuheisel based his Cal 8+ wins prediction on Cal holding opponents to 30 ppg).
So it got me thinking: IMHO how many Pac 12 wins (out of 9 Pac 12 conference games) would Cal get if the defense improves?
Here is what I think:
Would love reactions to my estimates…what do you think?

Here is what I think:
- If Cal improves to ~40ppgs defense (points by Pac 12 opponents), Cal will win about 4 Pac 12 games
- If Cal improves to ~35ppgs defense, Cal will win about 5-6 Pac 12 games
- If Cal improves to ~30ppgs defense, Cal will win about 7-8 Pac 12 games
