Talked to the Starkville (MS) 4-star wideout for a bit yesterday. He is one of a handful of WR targets Cal is hard after to fill the remaining couple spots, and Cal is definitely going to battle with some heavies for him.
Brown told me Cal is getting his first official visit, and the schools being considered for the others are Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Texas. Mississippi State being the hometown school will be visited as well, though he won't use an official to do so. One thing of note, and a major data point in Cal's favor, is Brown wants to play in an offense that will "throw the ball all over the field...just like Cal does".
Additionally, Cal is pursuing two other Mississippi receivers in 4-star Jordan Duncan (Hattiesburg) and Ole Miss commit DeKaylin Metcalf (Oxford). The three know each other well. In fact, Brown and Duncan spoke shortly before I called Brown, and the conversation centered around Cal. Duncan is visiting Berkeley in two weeks, Metcalf later in the summer. Part of the sell here is to get all three to Cal (numbers be damned, these are all guys you make room for), and there's a certain Mississippi native on the Cal staff that is spearheading the effort. Take a wild guess who that might be.
Brown intends to take his time, but Cal is in the mix here. At 6'2/215 pounds, he's an impressive physical specimen who recorded over 1000 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns for a Starkville team that went 13-1 and made the 6A State semifinals.
