Talked to him tonight. Dude keeps his cards close, but here's a few noteworthy things:
- This was his third trip to Cal. But he said the major highlight this time was being able to spend a lot of time with the guys on the team. Called out Bryce Treggs and Vic Wharton specifically as guys he bonded with. Treggs has definitely been doing some 'crootin.
- He said his intention had been to make a silent commitment to his school of choice and then announce at the USAAA game, but he since decided to announce earlier. That will happen next Monday.
- Finalists will be the schools he took official visits to: Cal, Utah, Notre Dame, Arizona and Boise State. You can rule out the last two though. This is a three team race at best, and more likely a two team race.
- The other big highlights from the visit were the time he spent with Peeler, Franklin and Dykes, and the Cal/St. Marys basketball game. It was the first college basketball game he's ever attended.
- Said Coach Peeler has been recruiting him for a long time and they have a great relationship. He's always appreciated Peeler's honesty.
- Cal likes him as a slot WR (his preference), but also likes the idea of lining him up in the backfield for 5-7 carries a game. He would conceivably return kicks and punts too. This usage resonates with him, but he's getting a similar pitch from everyone.
- I think this comes down to Cal and Utah, with Cal being the smart decision. Notre Dame is a possibility too, but I question whether he wants to go that far from home.
