I'm not talking about myself here. I'm talking about linebackers. Coming into this season, many thought that linebacker would be the single strongest unit on our defense. I personally believe it is the weakest. Absolutely lacking in speed and athleticism. Guys like Scooby Wright and Myles Jack - both linebackers - are players who have the athletic ability to raise the play of their entire defensive unit. We haven't had a guy like that since Pain Train, and it shows. (Mikey Mo was good, but not THAT good.)

What happened to our LB recruiting? If we can get guys like Demetris Robertson to consider Cal, why can't we get a decent three or four star linebacker to consider Cal? They HAVE to be more plentiful than quality defensive linemen. According to the GBR commitment list, here's the linebackers we currently have in our 2016 recruiting class:

Cameron Goode, 6-3, 195 pounds, 2 stars
Markus Wright, 6-2, 215 pounds, 2 stars, 4.8 forty

While I don't want to impugn these two kids, those numbers suggest to me that our linebacker recruitment is in desperate need of some improvement. We can't just wait to see if we can flip Eifler away from UW. I sure hope our current on-field success gives us the leverage to improve our LB recruiting. BTW, who is our LB coach?
