I realize that it will vary considerably depending on the team we are playing, but I ask the question to see what folks here think about the issue more generally.
In the latter part of his tenure, Tedford rarely (read: pretty much never) played the backup QB, and it ended up in disaster when the starter went down. (Think Brock Mansion.) That demonstrated the clear value of getting the backup QB some actual game reps. OTOH, I am among the folks who thought that playing Rubenzer last year (thereby telegraphing running plays, while at the same time putting Goff on the sideline when the outcome of the game was still in question ) went too far in the other direction.
If we have the game well in hand by halftime, like last week, do you think Forrest should play the entire second half? (I realize the term "well in hand" is somewhat subjective.) Good experience for Forrest and it also eliminates the risk of injury to Goff during what amounts to garbage time. But, OTOH, what about Goff getting the opportunity to put up some big numbers that might give both the team, and him, more notice from the national media and pollsters? Seems a bit secondary to me, but shouldn't it count for something?
Should Forrest get any snaps while the outcome of a game is in question? (I thought he looked pretty good last week, but no one is gonna argue that he is Goff's peer at this point.)
