Eric Bossi, Krysten Peek, Dan McDonald, and Russ Wood weighed in on where the remaining 2017 5-star players would land. Click here for Part 1. Click here for Part 2. I'll just post below where they have the Cal targets going and also provide my own analysis/crystal ball of sorts. Read the articles if you want more details/analysis.
Wendell Carter, Jr.-Bossi, Peek, McDonald, and Wood all have Carter going to Duke.
My take: I concur. Duke is the strong favorite here.
Brandon McCoy- Bossi says USC, Peek says Michigan State, Wood and McDonald both say Cal. One thing to note about McCoy is he has not yet set up any official visits and very well may wait to decide until the spring, so it could be a while before we find out where he lands.
My take: Brandon McCoy is really difficult to read and as they say, appears to be taking his sweet time. Due to him not having any officials set up and remaining relatively quiet, I really can't make a prediction of as to where he'll land. He does want to major in Marine Biology and Cal offers that as does USC. However, he seemed thrilled by the Michigan State visit and that was the most recent recruiting update on him. There honestly isn't enough data on him to really make an accurate prediction, but what I will say is that he seemed to think very highly of Cal when I interviewed him and they are a better basketball school than USC, so I'm fine with Cal being the front runner for now. Michigan State entering the picture is worrisome, though. I know I've been kinda flip-flopping on McCoy but that's because I haven't been able to really get a read on him. He is staying quiet and has no officials set up. Hence, it's a little fuzzy with him right now.
Troy Brown, Jr.-Bossi, Peek, and Wood all say Oregon. McDonald is the lone wolf saying Kansas.
My take: I maintain hope that Cal can land Troy Brown, Jr. He thinks very highly of the program and has shown interest for quite a while. Don't let these predictions worry you. Cal is still very much in the hunt.
M.J. Walker- Bossi and Peek say Maryland. McDonald says Georgia Tech and Wood says Florida State. Like McCoy, the feeling is that M.J. Walker will wait until the spring to decide. At least, that looks very possible.
My take: I've been unable to interview M.J. Walker due to his dad not returning my calls, so I really am in the dark about his recruitment to a large extent. What does bode well for Cal is that Walker is from Jonesboro, Georgia and he is in no rush to make a decision. Maybe Cal starts to enter the picture later in the season and picks up some steam with him like they did with Jaylen Brown. M.J. Walker is a guy to monitor and I will continue to do what I can to interview him and get a pulse on his recruitment.
