Here are my final thoughts on this subject which is so dear to the hearts of so many americans. I'm going to address the following thoughts and comments to the resident liberal legal scholars on this site, namely Lafayette Bear and Admiral Bear. Washington has been buzzing ever since it was announced by Josh Earnest( and you all know who Mr. Earnest is, right?) that President Obama will not be attending the funeral of justice Scalia on Saturday in our nations' capitol. It is worth noting that this will be the first time in american history that a sitting President has failed to attend the funeral of any supreme court justice, let alone one who has served for 30 years . When asked by a reporter at the briefing today if the President might opt to play golf saturday, Mr. earnest replied. " I really don't know--I don't know what the president will be doing saturday." It is impossible to overstate the message of decency, respect, comity and grand bi-partisanship President Obama would generate by attending the funeral foir the world to see. By the same token, words fail me when I try to describe the shock felt by most if noit all of those who will be attending the funeral regardless of political and/or legal persuasion. LB---I know you have the decency to be upset by this unprecedented turn of events and I fully expect you to voice your concern. AB----I know theree is nothing in thge Constitution which requires a sitting President to attend any funeral, but, in the immortal words of Katherine Hepburn, " Nevertheless." Your thoughts????
