I was in Tuscaloosa this weekend to visit my daugther who is getting her M.A. at Bama (having graduated last year from Bama) and to see Alabama vs. Arkansas. While "pre-gaming" at various watering holes (Innisfree, Houndstooth, Gallette's), I kept seeing guys wearing nametags that said "Hello, my name is JOEY FRESHWATER." Eventually I asked one of the bouncers at Gallette's what the story was. He told me that a couple of weeks ago, Lane Kiffin was seen at Innisfree (great bar) and appeared to be intoxicated. A couple of students went up to him and said "Aren't you Coach Kiffin?" He slurred back at them "No, I am Joey Freshwater." So a legend was born.
