We're only 10 days out from Spring Football, to which I say thank goodness. Getting out of the house is absolutely imperative, as I've been doing yard work for a good portion of this past week and I'm already tired of it.
Anyhow, as a reminder, every spring practice is open, with the dates in the tweet below, starting on March 4th. I will be at all of them.
It's also that time of year where guys put out highlights to get themselves hyped for the year to come
Josh Drayden:
Kekoa Crawford:
I've stated before that I think the inside linebackers are the group to watch (Replacing Weaver is of massive importance, but here's my rough thoughts on what's worth watching at each group (turning these into position previews for each group over the next two weeks)
QB: How Garbers picks up the system/Musgrave's coaching style (he's much more quiet than Baldwin, and I want to see how much actually changes as far as the drill-work)
RB: Brown's continued development, whether Brooks can fight his way into reps, and what Aristotle Thompson focuses on (Edwards main focus with this group was physicality)
WR: Continued growth of guys who flashed late, like Remigio and Polk, along with final year growth from Clark and Crawford.
TE: Multi-TE sets with Musgrave, Cal ran a lot of them with some combination of Tonges/Reinwald/Moore late (especially in the bowl). Seeing where Mojarro fits as well
OL: Competition with Craig and Williams back. Also how McClure differs from Greatwood
DL: Second year of BRETT JOHNSON alongside sixth year seniors. Also Jaedon Roberts getting his start on defense
OLB: Who steps up behind Goode and Paul, and if Paul can get back to his 2018 form (and if we see some Deng here)
ILB: Who replaces Weaver?
CB: Chigi potentially taking one spot if Hicks permanently moves to safety, where Drayden fits in
S: Open competition (Hicks, Scott, Woodson, Humphries, Paster)
STs: Sheahan punting, someone kicking (Longhetto, Nick Lopez, or Siemieniec?)
Also, an under-the-radar local guy who could earn a Cal offer in the future:
He's probably closer to 6'7" and 270 than the listed 6'9" 250 lbs, and he runs a leg in the 4x100
Interesting times ahead, only one more week until the end of the dead period as well
