I felt very conflicted about Swanigan as a Bear.
For one, I think being on the one and done treadmill is disastrous for us. How many local 5 stars can we count on to stay home to replenish each year? I'm fine with a local kid like Rabb as a potential one and done. Yes, I have similar concerns about Brown but I don't think he's coming anyway.
Secondly, a combo of Rabb and Okoroh/Rooks seems better to me. Especially, if it includes Shonn Miller or Tollefsen. I'm not so sure one year of Miller isn't better than one year of Swanigan on its own (if we can land Miller, that is).
Thirdly, I have no idea what to make of the rumors. At a base level, I would imagine his handlers were adamant he gets showcased. That only works if he's truly great but majority of such situations become cancerous to a team and program. If money is involved, well, it's a no brainier we shouldn't be involved.
So, why conflicted? He would have added a big body like we haven't seen since Sanders-Frison. He would have provided an inside offensive game we don't currently have. And, emotionally, I like everyone here likes being chosen by a highly ranked national recruit. That's a weak reason. Recruiting has led many of us to view commitments as more important "victories" than the actual games. I am super envious of Wisconsin's program which seems to have found the right balance.
Hopefully Rabb stocks and we add a valuable big to compliment. We don't need a starter in my opinion. Jolly would be a solid addition, though I think beating out Gonzaga will be tough. If Wallace leaves, we'll have to swoop in quick to pick up a legitimate PG that can start for us. I'm not that disappointed Swanigan chose elsewhere UNLESS it is a precursor to Rabb bailing as well.
