Hey guys, Cal women's basketball plays their final non-conference game tonight against CSU-Northridge. The game tips off at 7:00 PM PST. The game can be accessed via Live Stream on CalBears.com I will fire up this thread with five things to look for and know going into this game. Note: As always, I will be live tweeting. #1. It's hard to see what threat CSU-Northridge can give Cal: This is a pretty dismal way to start off the thread for the Matadors, but in truth, CSU-Northridge isn't very good at anything, which explains their awful 2-10 record. They don't rebound well, they don't hit their free throws, they don't shoot well from beyond the arc or inside the arc, and they give up 79.67 points per game. All in all, CSU-Northridge is pretty weak in all facets of the game.
#2. Cal should really pound CSU-Northridge inside: With Kristine Anigwe inside, Cal should dominate the battle of the boards and give CSU-Northridge very few second-chance scoring opportunities.
#3. After Tessa Boagni and Serafina Maulupe, it really drops off for CSU-Northridge: Boagni and Maulupe average more than 12 points per game each, combining for a solid 24 points per game. After that, nobody else on the team scores more than 7 points per game. Neither one is really prone to explode anyways, and what's worse is they have no bench support.
#4. Cal should hope to blow out CSU-Northridge to rest their players: Pac-12 play opens up for Cal women's basketball on Saturday at Arizona State. It would be great if they could run the Matadors out of Haas Pavilion early and give Range, Anigwe, and Thomas some rest.
#5. What exactly will CSU-Northridge's game plan even be? Usually if a team is good at say three-point shooting or rebounding or defending, it's easy to figure out what game plan they will use. With CSU-Northridge, it'll be fascinating to see what strategies they implement since in truth, their strategy should be to waive the white flag and save their strength for a lesser and beatable opponent.
Prediction: I see no reason for this game to be even remotely close. Cal is better in every facet of the game: Scoring, rebounding, defending, etc. I expect Cal to win this game comfortably by a score of 90-50. That's right folks, I'm predicting a 40 point blowout for Cal. CSU-Northdridge is terrible and Cal is ranked #19 in the AP Poll and #18 in the USA TODAY poll. I expect nothing short of total domination.
