College basketball: Cal is replacing Eddy Kleinhans, who has been the public-address announcer for men’s games at Haas Pavilion for the past 15 seasons, with Spencer Bowen.
Kleinhans, a corporate strategist for Hansen Medical, admitted he’s disappointed, but added, “I realize 15 years is a long time to do something as a volunteer and it’s been a tremendous honor to be a part of Cal.” Bowen works in the Cal athletic department.
“Cal Athletics would like to thank Eddy for his years of service and dedication as our PA announcer and we look forward to our continued working relationship with him,” Cal associate athletic director Wesley Mallette said in a statement. “We are also excited that Spencer Bowen will be stepping into this role. ... Like Eddy, Spencer is a former Cal mic man who is passionate and committed to this university.”
