I actually don't understand why there is any benefit to waiting until the end of the season to fire him. Thanks to the idiotic contract we signed him to, we owe him $3M more NO MATTER WHAT. So why not pull the plug now and try to salvage at least a little positive momentum heading into next year?

"The contract runs from March 24, 2017 to April 14, 2022, a standard five-year term for a college coaching contract. Jones will make $250,000 per year in base salary, along with a $750,000 talent fee.

Should Jones be terminated without cause, he will receive 100% of his base salary and talent fee, for the remainder of the term of the contract, as a buyout. Unlike Martin, Jones's contract does not include retention bonuses.

The terms of the contract were signed on April 10 by Jones and athletic director Mike Williams, and on April 12 by chancellor Nicholas Dirks. "
