Hey guys, I interviewed Troy Brown, Jr.'s AAU Coach Anthony Brown, so stay tuned for that interview. But in the meantime, here are my notes on Troy's game after watching some of his tape from this past season. These notes are as they appear in my notebook.
2017 5-star point guard Troy Brown, Jr. 6'6", 195 lbs. Las Vegas, NV. Centennial H.S. AAU: Las Vegas Prospects.
Notes:
Long, lanky. Good size. Sees the floor well. Good handle on the ball. Versatile, creative. Quick hands. Looks off defenders. Uses length to see over defenders and find the open man. Possible concern: He makes the fancy passes well, but seems like he does it by default. Sometimes the simple play is enough and he goes the extra and unnecessary mile. But, he has great court vision all the same. Passes really well. Great outlet passes. Sees the floor. Versatile scorer. Can score inside, midrange, or from three. Length, size, quicks, and handle allow him to do this.
Centennial vs. Maranatha notes: Attacks the glass to finish. Smooth stroke. Passes could be a little more on the mark. Sometimes gets sloppy with his passes. Nice handle. Nice setback three. Game seems to come easy to him. Has ability to make tough shots. But sometimes that can hurt him. I.e. He needs to improve on his shot selection.
Conclusion: Troy Brown, Jr. is a fantastic talent. It's no wonder he is a five-star player. He has great size, length, ball handling, passing abilities, scoring abilities, and potential as a defender. He is the whole package and has a very high basketball IQ judging by how well he sees the floor. He just needs to work on taking care of the ball, making the right play, improving his shot selection, and getting stronger.
