Hawaii beat Colorado last year by 8 at home, then went on to only win again vs. UC Davis and ULM.

Colorado struggled to pass the ball and Hawaii got 4 sacks against them. The Buffs ran for 200 yards but averaged only 4.1 ypc.

Even stranger was the next week on the road vs. defending national champion Ohio State. Rainbow defense holds the Buckeyes to 3.7 ypc And they sack them twice holding OSU to only 363 yards. Buckeyes won big behind four turnovers. However, it was the third worst output offensively for Ohio State all season.

Bottom line is that Hawaii's defense played pretty well early in the season against Power 5 teams. Late in the season, that same defense fell apart.

On the other side of the ball, Hawaii's offense was anemic against both Colorado and the Bucks.

New coach, new year. Big losses for Hawaii on the DL. They return a lot more on offense and that's where you would expect to see a bigger improvement with the new coaching. Will their defense be equally as stout early this year?
