After all I've read about Tyson Jolly's values and character throughout his recruitment and tenure at prep school I have found it remarkable that we haven't heard him express indignation or sympathy for the victim. None of the stories that have subsequently been published have indicated that any of the recruits seem disappointed let alone offended or disgusted with their Cal recruiter's actions. Actions that he took which resulted in sexual harassment charges, emotional pain for the victim, Hufnagel's Cal termination, and embarrassment to Cal, the basketball program and head coach.
I am sure Tyson Jolly never dreamed that his primary Cal's recruiter could or would enmesh him in such a repellent human act.. None the less Jolly is involved and has an opportunity and responsibility to make a very public display of his personal moral values.
Loyalty is justifiably granted to a recipient when the recipient's actions justify. Jolly's loyalty to Hufnagel seems to be blind loyalty. He doesn't seem to be considering the abusive actions that Hufnagel has admitted to in his calculation. Tyson seems to have thrown his lot with the guy who admitted the sexual abuse and he has abandoned Cuonzo Martin, who by all accounts is a honorable leader of the Cal Basketball program. Cuonzo Martin is the guy who is responsible for the Bears remarkable record as well as issuing a scholarship to Tyson over a year ago.
While it is very disappointing that Tyson didn't initially see the error and irony in his analysis of the situation it is not to late to rectify his public support. I hope on reflection he recognizes his opportunity and responsibility to support the victim and Cal.
