Phil Steele's All P12 team is out:
Goff, NIckerson and Lawler are 2nd team; Borrayo, Treggs, Kragen are 3rd team. Steele tracks every teams performance by yards gained and given up versus quality of opponents offense and defense. Using that stat, we finished 12th in the country, our best win was at UW, our best loss was at Stanford, our worst loss was at Oregon and our worst win was at Texas.
We finished 1st in the country in points scored in the 3rd quarter. Wonder why that's the case? Halftime adjustments?
Our offensive line made a leap in performance the final four games with nearly 6 ypc rushing and only giving up sacks on 3.35% of pass attempts. And that includes a matchup with the top two sack defenses in the Pac 12 (ASU) and the #2 and #6 rush defenses. The OL, after a rough start, finished 2nd in sacks allowed per pass attempt behind UCLA.
Our pass defense was not very strong with a 144 passer rating against in conference play, which had us 8th in the P12. This was an improvement against the dismal 162 in 2014 and 168 in 2015.
Our rush defense took a step back as we gave up 4.89 yards per carry vs. 4.18 in 2014. We also got worse on 3rd down, allowing 44% of attempts to succeed. Where we got way better was red zone defense, giving up TDs 25% less often than in 2014.
