A judge recently allowed Cal and MIT to begin their legal fight over who invented "CRISPR", which is rapidly becoming the major way to perform genetic engineering and may be applied to treat genetic diseases. You should care because, in the bio world, getting sole credit for inventing crispr would be as prestigious as for discovering a new element.
