Hey guys, I just watched some film on 4-star big man Schnider Herard (6'10", 255 lb.) from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, TX. Here are my notes from the full game I watched of him. I took notes on his mixtapes, but I think those were somewhat misleading so I'll omit those notes in the board thread. Anyways, here are the full game notes that I took:
Good defensive awareness. Boxes out his man. Rotates. Ball handling needs work. Needs to improve establishing position on the block. Good defensive rebounder. Boxes out. Offensively raw. Gives up too much space inside at times. Hands straight up but doesn't block the shots like he should. Decent shot mechanics at the foul line, but he is hit and miss at the line. Needs work but has potential. Needs to get quicker and lose some weight. Quickness will help him get position down on the block. Catches lobs for the flush. When given daylight, he throws it down with authority with Shaq-like dunks.
Doesn't set a lot of screens. Could benefit from an offensive scheme that runs a lot of pick and roll. This is more of a criticism on the coaches working with him than anything else. He needs to run more pick and rolls and not always be forced to establish position inside. Perhaps if he was quicker, his coaches would trust him to run more pick and rolls. Anyways, this is somewhat of a tangent but also important to note.
Uses body well to score inside when he gets position. Good at going up strong on the o-boards. Gains confidence at the end of the game. Good strong move and gets to the line.
Conclusion: Schnider Herard has tremendous physical tools to work with. You can't teach his size to anybody. He also is a solid defender inside and uses his body well. His biggest issue is that he is offensively raw. His ball handling isn't very good, he has a hard time establishing position, and he lacks post moves as well as variety in his shots. It's pretty much all back to the basket slams and the occasional jump hook. If his offense can improve and if he can take advantage of his body when on offense, he could be really good.
